Free leads? Is it even possible?
However, it takes work. Not a lot of it but it takes work.
In today’s article, we’ll discuss how to get free water damage leads using Google My Business – GMB, for short, will be used for future reference.
Let’s dive right in!
What is GMB
GMB is a free service offered by Google. It allows you to list your business on their directory and show up in search results whenever somebody searches for a service you’re selling in your area.
Here’s how those listings look like:
Why Invest Time into GMB
First of all, GMB listings can rank above the standard top 10 Google search results.
This allows you to take 2 pieces of “digital real estate” on the first page of Google for your keywords – one is a GMB listing and the other one is your website.
Next, about 5% of people who find your business through GMB will take some form of action with your business (visit your website, call you, etc). This number increases every single year.
Lastly, in a lot of areas, most businesses don’t pay too much attention to GMB. This is an opportunity for you to step in and steal your competitors’ GMB rankings.
How Google Works
Google’s number one priority is user experience. Therefore a sure way to be dominant in Google is to have a better quality GMB profile than the competition.
Provide people with a lot of information – location, phone number, working hours, website, etc.
The sure way to rank high in GMB listings is to have satisfied clients. If a client is satisfied with your service, they will be encouraged to leave a positive review on your GMB profile. The more positive reviews you have, the higher you rank. The higher you rank, the more money you make.

Setting up your GMB profile
Go to Google My Business and create your profile. They will ask you to fill in a lot of fields like business name, phone number, etc. Make sure to fill in all of that. Also, enter your business category, products, and services, and fill in the “From Business” field.
Be as detailed as you possibly can. Don’t be lazy. The more information you provide, the better off you’ll be.
Add a Q&A
Customers will always have questions, before and after ordering your service. It’s a good idea to include questions you get asked all the time in your GMB profile through a Q&A. This is a great way to build trust by showing that you understand customer’s problems and needs. Answer each question in detail.
Naturally, when you educate someone on a certain topic, they will view you as an expert.
Add images to prove that you’re a real business. It doesn’t have to be anything too professional. Take a few pictures of your offices, your team, etc. You can take a step further and record videos.
Images are a big ranking factor on GMB. The more images you have, the better off you’ll be. However, as with anything else, you don’t want to overdo it.
Post on your profile regularly. Ideally, you should be doing it every day. But if you can’t, do it at least once or twice per week.
Answer any incoming questions and be helpful. A lot of businesses “set and forget” their GMB profiles. Being active will immediately separate your business from theirs. Google is going to notice that.
And not only will Google notice that you’re helpful but more importantly, the actual customers will also know of your great customer support and they will appreciate that.
Reviews are the top ranking factor in GMB. Even if you get everything else wrong but have a lot of good reviews, you will still rank.
They will also increase your conversion rate since most people will feel confident calling a business with a lot of 5-star reviews. Ask every customer you ever get to leave a review on your GMB profile once you complete your job. Just ask them.
If you’ve done a good job, they’ll usually be happy to do it.
Ninja hack – Use incentives
You have to be careful with this. Google doesn’t want you to do this. However, it works like a charm.
Offer discounts or small products, something that you can give away for free, in exchange for a detailed review of your business. Again, you have to be careful with this because it’s against Google’s terms.
But a lot of businesses do this and if you do it the right way, AKA not overdo it, you’ll be just fine.
